Q+A with Lexi M
1.) How did you find the experience of using the disposable camera? Enjoyable or painful?
Using disposable cameras is always a fun blast from the past but it can be super stressful knowing you only have 24 photos. The aim of portraying your life or week with twenty four pictures is difficult but extremely interesting really taking a step back and thinking “hmm this is what I do every week” and reflecting on it.
2.) How did it make you feel not being able to see the photos as they were taken and not being able to edit or know what the photos turned out like?
To me, that is the very best part. I love having no clue how the pictures will turn out but they truly capture a moment, feeling, person, or image without changing it or tweaking it. It’s raw.
3.) From your roll of film what was your fave image and why?
My favorite image from my roll of film was of the Taco Bell drive-through. It’s very accurate in its portrayal for the simple reason that my boyfriend and I have had a taco bell ritual for the past five years (since freshman year of high school). That photo is the very culmination of us, our friendship, and our relationship.
4.) Would you be interested in shooting another roll?
I shoot a roll a week anyway because I have no space left to take pictures on my phone. I would love to!
5.) Is there anything else we could include or introduce to make the experience more interesting?
It might be cool to present this more as an art project rather than just documentation. That way, people can be creative with how their taking pictures for example messing with the film, the lens, and double exposures.
6.) Did you enjoy the aspect of shooting a selfie?
It was fun shooting a selfie. It was hard thinking of one shot that could portray me completely.
7.) What did you think of the outcomes when you saw the final photos?
I was somewhat disappointed with the quality because the flash can be tricky. When I was taking them they seemed like amazing pictures but that could have been my state of mind at the time!
8.) Would you approach the concept differently if you had another go?
I definitely would change the way I took the photos looking for new tricks. I also wouldn’t set a picture limit every day like I did this time. It limited me from taking some really amazing pictures.
9.) Would you enter into the concept if it was set up in a competition format with prizes to be won?
Yes! Definitely!
10.) Would you like to see your photos presented in a gallery exhibition environment.
Yes! That would be great!
