Who are you?
Home is where the heart is. I grew up in Sydney, Australia, and now live in New Zealand.
Do you have a insta, etc?
I have an instagram account (@alxethelion) for my photography and everything else I can think of.
What do you do for a crust? (How do you make money/where do you work)?
I currently work as a Production/Tour manager, although I often work as a photographer.
Can you tell us about your creative background?
I have always been creative. Spent 13 years playing the trombone through school and into university, and have been photographing since I was 12. Since 2014 I’ve been shooting film. Photography, as a creative outlet, has reminded how beautiful everything really is.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
‘Remember to breath’.
What do you do with your free time?
In free time I enjoy photographing, listening to music, practising yoga and just appreciating life.
Tips for making your ideas and dreams come to life…
Follow your heart, start somewhere and remember to keep moving forward..
What inspires you to shoot film?
For me shooting film has more purpose. There is intention behind every shot I take. And of course it is incredibly rewarding.
How did you come to connect with Indisposable Concept?
I discovered Indisposable Concept through Instagram.
How did you find the experience of using the disposable camera? Enjoyable or painful?
Disposable cameras are great fun to use.
When shooting with disposables/film, how does it make you feel not being able to see the photos as they are taken?
I prefer not seeing the images straight away. I am always more present when shooting film as I can only create the image, I’m not able to see what I have done. The acts of patience and nonattachment involved in the creative process of photography are so rewarding.
Analogue Vs Digital? What do you prefer and why?
Analogue. Ever since I started shooting film (back in 2014) I started to realise how satisfying it was to shoot film. Every aspect of it is enlightening.
It seems film photography and disposables are making a comeback, why do you think that is?
Film photography seems to be making a comeback because it is less of the instant gratification that has now permeated society. Furthermore there seems to be a sense of nostalgia, for simpler times. I also think it’s the expansive nature of creativity that is ever-present in shooting film.
If someone destroyed all the disposable cameras in the world and you had the very last one, what would you capture?
I’m not entirely sure what I would capture… possibly the usual, otherwise maybe a stronger focus on photographing people to provide that human element.
What does the future hold for you? Work, holidays, projects, adventures….?
I try not focus too much on the future as I want to appreciate the present as much as possible. I do however want to see a lot more of New Zealand. There are various places in the world I wish to travel to as well. I also want to exhibit more of my photography. I want to teach more yoga (RYT 2017).
How would you describe your photographic style?
My style is art/documentary. Also I love landscape photography so you’ll see a lot of that.
Who or what influences you creatively?
Creatively I am influenced by authenticity. In my opinion Banksy is one of the world’s greatest artists today.
Where do you find inspiration?
My inspiration is everywhere. All around me and also within. Everything I see and hear.
What’s the biggest issue facing the world right now?
I believe every issue in the world is easily fixable. Be yourself and smile more!
Worry less about….? Focus more on….?
Worry less about effort. Focus more on intention.
Fave place to shoot?
Favourite place to shoot is anywhere. Especially open spaces.
