1.) How did you find the experience of using the disposable camera?
This was my first venture using a film camera that I can recall. I’ve been using DSLRs since I was 15 and within the past year or so started taking things a bit more seriously. Not being able to adjust aperture, shutter speed, and ISO was quite painful, but having a small camera on my person was fun. It did make me feel like a tourist (I totally was but I felt transported from the 90s to 2014 Montreal)

2.) How did it make you feel not being able to see the photos as they were taken and not being able to edit or know what the photos turned out like?
I just felt nervous. With a digital slr I can take as many as I’d like. I have many opportunities to nail the framing. If it’s too dark I can adjust any of my settings after a bad image take. This was all based off of gut feeling. Some of those feelings worked better than others. It was a great exercise to get me to focus in on what I was doing.

3.) From your roll of film what was your fave image and why?
This is a cop out, but I have 3. St. Josef’s Basilica because it turned out the best, in my opinion. The picture of the nightstand because it’s a very revealing photo. And the selfie with my friend, because my best friend and I were together and it’s hard not to love that.

4.) Would you be interested in shooting another roll?
I’ve already picked up a second disposable. This one has a higher ISO so that I can avoid using flash.

5.) Is there anything else we could include or introduce to make the experience more interesting?
The only thing that would be cool is perhaps having themed rolls. Different months have different themes. This can be in addition to your project. Perhaps you email people who send in more than once or have submitted before.

6.) Did you enjoy the aspect of shooting a selfle?
The selfie of just me I didn’t enjoy. I knew the flash was going to wash my already pale body out. I tried to diffuse the light with a piece of paper, but ended up getting a strange bright light on my neck. Learned my lesson on that one (either don’t do it, or tape the diffuser over the flash ensuring that light can’t escape from the bottom. I was holding it with my fingers).

7.) What did you think of the outcomes when you saw the final photos?
I was happy with a few. I feel like I could have done better with the composition on most of them.

8.) Would you approach the concept differently if you had another go?
I was trying to craft a narrative of my trip with this one. I didn’t get the photos in the order that I would have liked them and probably missed some good stuff . On my tumblr I’m going to order them in the sequence I imagined. Next time I may put a conceptual spin on it. I’ve not a clue what that will be.

9.) Would you enter into the concept if it was set up in a competition format with prizes to be won?
I would definitely enter if there were prizes. I’m glad you have something that’s not prize based. If you had it as an alternative or in addition to the project itself, I think that’d be the best solution.

10.) Would you like to see your photos presented in a gallery exhibition environment.
As long as I was notified and given credit, I’d be happy to see them in an exhibition environment.

11.) Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would love to see some coffee table books of these.
