Hi there Indisposable Concept! I’ve been a fan of this project for a year now, I started shooting film (especially disposable cameras) around a year ago, but never really submitted to this project. I decided to see if I shot any of my rolls within a week, and realized I had in fact shot a roll late February of 2013 (last year) while on vacation to the East Coast and Canada, visiting some friends.

I’ve made it easy to know the locations by numbering the files 1-26, and I will include which numbers correlate with which locations in this email:

1-14: shot in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
15-17: shot at Fort Popum, Maine, USA.
18,19: shot at Popum State Beach, Maine, USA.
20: shot in Downtown Portland, Maine, USA.
21-25: shot in Quebec City, QU, Canada.
26: shot in Southern California, California, USA.

1.) How did you find the experience of using the disposable camera?
I found the experience of using a disposable camera extremely enjoyable, because the process is so simple. With high end film cameras, the settings are often manual, and therefore it can take a long time to set a shot. A disposable camera is the definition of spontaneity. The minute you see the shot, you point and shoot, and the photo has been taken.

2.) How did it make you feel not being able to see the photos as they were taken and not being able to edit or know what the photos turned out like?
To not see the photos until development, I believe, is one of the most magical parts about shooting on film. You never know how your pictures will turn out, and the results either are horribly exciting, or horribly terrifying.

3.) From your roll of film what was your fave image and why?
From the roll, my favourite shot is number 24. This is because it felt very nostalgic. I traveled to Quebec City in late February, so the air was still frigid and snow was still falling. I was just about to get ready to leave Quebec and continue my travels elsewhere, so this is one of the last memories I had of being in the city itself. To me, it felt simply magical, how the snow collected upon the tree outside the hotel. The little red berries were a perfect contrast, and they reminded me of when I would travel to Russia as a child during the Winter and the berry bushes near my grandmother’s house would be covered with fresh white snow in the exact same manner.

4.) Would you be interested in shooting another roll?
I am absolutely interested in shooting another roll, and already have shot quite a few 🙂

5.) Is there anything else we could include or introduce to make the experience more interesting?
If I could add anything else, I would say that my trip to the East Coast was very memorable, and these photos all represent what I was experiencing during the journey.

6.) Did you enjoy the aspect of shooting a selfle?
Shooting a selfie was very cool, because I actually used a technique I had read online to shoot this selfie. I believe it’s called the “slap-shot” and it’s a method used for shooting multiple exposures on a disposable camera. I believe that the selfie is a multiple exposure, though it is hard to tell. Regardless, it came out very cool.

7.) What did you think of the outcomes when you saw the final photos?
To this day, this roll is still one of my favourites.

8.) Would you approach the concept differently if you had another go?
I am planning on having another go in a couple of weeks, and I do plan on approaching the concept in a different manner. Instead of including mostly scenery and landscapes, I’m planning on photographing people, animals, and social moments.

9.) Would you enter into the concept if it was set up in a competition format with prizes to be won?
Yes I would, but it wouldn’t be the main reason I’d enter. I’d mainly enter so I could share these memorable moments with the rest of the disposable camera shooting world.

10.) Would you like to see your photos presented in a gallery exhibition environment.
Yes, I would like to see my photos presented in a gallery.
