Q+A with Yenny (From Yenny’s first contribution)

1.) How did you find the experience of using the disposable camera? Enjoyable or painful?
I found the experience of using the disposable daunting at first because I couldn’t tell if my photo would turn out or not, then thrilling when I got my developed photos back and realising that they had.

2.) How did it make you feel not being able to see the photos as they were taken and not being able to edit or know what the photos turned out like?
Really anxious because I’ve been used to instantly edit and/or delete photos as I wished. This forced me to think ahead about lighting, framing and focus.

3.) From your roll of film what was your fave image and why?
Surprisingly, my favourite photo came down to either the one of my friend Rekhi in the sunglasses and bear hat, or the one of the clouds that I honestly thought would not turn out. They both remind me of moments that I really cherished.

4.) Would you be interested in shooting another roll?
Yes definitely interested, have already shot another roll from when I spent the weekend at Lismore/Byron Bay for Splendour on the Grass. Will get them developed asap!

5.) Is there anything else we could include or introduce to make the experience more interesting?
Include an exhibition at a gallery in Sydney!

6.) Did you enjoy the aspect of shooting a selfie?
I actually did not enjoy the prospect of a selfie mainly because I had no idea if it’ll turn out ok or hideous. There is no middle ground for me! haha

7.) What did you think of the outcomes when you saw the final photos?
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my final photos – happy that most of them turned out alright or better than I thought they would.

8.) Would you approach the concept differently if you had another go?
I decided to focus my next roll on a “roadtrip” sort of theme, so if I recall there should be lots of landscapes and not so much people around me. Anything that I found new and beautiful. The last few shots are of stuff back in Sydney to complete the full week.

9.) Would you enter into the concept if it was set up in a competition format with prizes to be won?
If it was a competition format with prizes, I would definitely join. Not so much to win something but to really think more about how I could enhance my own photos to the best they can be.

10.) Would you like to see your photos presented in a gallery exhibition environment.
Would love to see my work in an exhibition environment. Things like that would further connect people within a community and promote the project I think.

11. Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Thanks so much for getting this project together and really making it work. I still find it exciting to see new posts on instagram and getting glimpses of other people’s worlds!
