Meet Starla Dawn

We call it the #ICMEETSERIES and thought it would be interesting to find out a bit more about the people behind the disposables. We asked a few IC contributors to tell us a bit about themselves and this is what we got in return…

Who are you?
Starla Dawn.

Where’s home?
For now, Frederick MD, USA

What do you do for a crust?
For now a combination of taking photos, waiting tables and mooching off my husband.

Best advice you’ve ever been given?
“Shut the F*** up.” I took that as talk less, listen more.

What do you do with your free time?
Take photos, play pokemon go, watch too much tv.

What inspires you to shoot film?
I simply hate editing or being stuck in front of a computer screen.

How did you come to connect with Indisposable Concept?
Long time fan!

How did you find the experience of using the disposable camera? Enjoyable or painful?
Although I felt I spaced my images out in our trouble I could have probably still thought and composed a little better. I love having minimal tools but def want to experiement more in the future.

When shooting with disposables/film, how does it make you feel not being able to see the photos as they are taken?
For me it was fine but I also gave disposables to my kids for this trip (still need to develop) and for them, they have only really taken photos with phones or tablets or toy digital, so I think they are eager to see.

Analogue Vs Digital? What do you prefer and why?
All the things. I say all cameras or “all the things” because I love learning how to use new cameras and formats for documenting and creating. I love a challenge and I love pushing myself.

It seems film photography and disposables are making a comeback, why do you think that is?
Thank Bob! Wishing one-hour photo would make a come back as well.

If someone destroyed all the disposable cameras in the world and you had the very last one, what would you capture?
I would probably try to use it to create a series of images with some sort of theme, perhaps all images of things that are abandoned in city streets.

What does the future hold for you?
Hopefully we find out where we will relocate soon. Fingers crossed for San Diego.

How would you describe your photographic style?
All over the place.

Who or what influences you creatively?
I think I am influence most by music and the company I keep.

Where do you find inspiration?
Songs and stories.

What’s the biggest issue facing the world right now?
Ugh. Insert long train of sad thought followed shortly by an existential crisis.

Worry less about….?
Money.

Focus more on….?
Family, friends, relationships.
