Q+A with Ziva

1.) How did you find the experience of using the disposable camera? Enjoyable or painful?
Loved the experience of using a disposable. Have always loved film photography & will hopefully continue to use the disposable for a long time.

2.) How did it make you feel not being able to see the photos as they were taken and not being able to edit or know what the photos turned out like?
One of the main reasons I love film & the disposable is this very aspect – the mystery of not knowing what turned out & what did. Forgetting ½ of what you’ve photographed then surprised upon developing.

3.) From your roll of film what was your fave image and why?
My fav image taken on this disposable is the ‘Manly walk arcade’ with my feet in it. I like the composition, colours and shapes.

4.) Would you be interested in shooting another roll?
Most DEFINITLEY. I love this project & I think it’s a wicked thing to create. It makes me sad how much digital photography is ‘taking over the world’ these days. Also how impersonal everything is becoming through technology (facebook.. iphones etc) so its super cool to have a glimpse into other peoples lives through this project.

5.) Is there anything else we could include or introduce to make the experience more interesting?
Not that I can think of thus far…

6.) Did you enjoy the aspect of shooting a selfie?
I would describe my style of photography, as documentary so most selfies I take are not candid.. I.e. standing in front of a graffiti wall not posing or from behind looking out into the distance. This selfie I decided to actually look into the camera & smile, which I must say felt weird.

7.) What did you think of the outcomes when you saw the final photos?
I was happy with the outcome, although a bit gutted 3 or 4 photos didn’t turn out due to being blurry or not the right light. Overall however I’m stoked.

8.) Would you approach the concept differently if you had another go?
Yesss id carry the camera around with me more often than what I did… often its when i’m wandering around aimlessly that I stumble across something I want to capture. I’m def keen to have another go.

9.) Would you enter into the concept if it was set up in a competition format with prizes to be won?
Yip for sure. I’ve entered a couple of photography comps before & although it’s not to ‘win’ something, more for the enjoyment of it, I guess prizes are just a bonus.

10.) Would you like to see your photos presented in a gallery exhibition environment.
Yeah – why not? Share & share alike I say.

11. Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Just wanted to express my gratitude at not only creating this concept but for the kind words when I emailed you guys explaining I’d taken my photos across more than a week + would be sending my camera in late due to my Grandad being sick. Kindness goes a long way, most espec when it’s from a stranger I think. I couldn’t have agreed more about family being one of the most important things in life, so thank you for your genuine words at such a hard time.
