Q+A with Teresa V
1.) How did you find the experience of using the disposable camera? Enjoyable or painful?
I enjoyed it a lot because I love the feeling of shooting with film, I actually have a film camera myself! My only problem was forgetting to keep the camera unwound so that it wouldn’t take pictures on accident whicccch happened to me a lot haha.
2.) How did it make you feel not being able to see the photos as they were taken and not being able to edit or know what the photos turned out like?
The fact that there isn’t instant gratification makes me stop and really think about what to shoot and it makes me that much more psyched when the pictures turn out good. But it was also frustrating when a moment went un-captured because I couldn’t retake the picture, but I guess thats life!
3.) From your roll of film what was your fave image and why?
I think my favorite image from both rolls of my rolls of film was a picture of a man playing his flute among the stuff he was selling at a local beach bazaar. He was so carefree and his flute sounded so whimsical that I couldn’t help but try to get a picture. I mustered up the courage to ask for his picture and this was significant to me because I had never asked a stranger for their picture. It was really worth it because I love how the picture turned out! That day was a great day too so I’m glad I could capture it with this happy guy and his flute.
4.) Would you be interested in shooting another roll?
Yes! In fact I have already shot 2 😉
5.) Is there anything else we could include or introduce to make the experience more interesting?
I think this concept is a really cool idea already! Especially because of the disposable camera being so outdated these days. I would love to see a theme for everyone to shoot every once in a while maybe? Maybe just one simple word a month or something, like love or green or circles, but I also just love the idea of shooting what other peoples view of the world is!
6.) Did you enjoy the aspect of shooting a selfie?
I like the idea of having a picture of yourself on the roll because it gives everyone who looks at the pictures a better perspective. I also love the fact that it is so raw, you can’t take it over and you can’t see it until you get the pictures developed. Its kind of ironic because selfies are usually taken on cellphones multiple times until they are perfect.
7.) What did you think of the outcomes when you saw the final photos?
I was so excited because some pictures turned out way better than I thought they would! But I was also disappointed because some pictures were so underexposed that they didn’t get developed and I can hardly even remember what they were of!
8.) Would you approach the concept differently if you had another go?
Funny thing is I loved the idea so much and wanted to make it good so I actually did have another go and ended up loving both rolls! The second time I was more careful with my pictures and really tried to capture things as I saw them.
9.) Would you enter into the concept if it was set up in a competition format with prizes to be won?
Yes! I would love that, but there is also something humbling about just sharing your world with people just for the pure reason of wanting to.
10.) Would you like to see your photos presented in a gallery exhibition environment.
Yes! I would love to be a part of something like that, it is one of my life goals as a matter of fact.
