Q+A with Mel
1.) How did you find the experience of using the disposable camera? Enjoyable or painful?
Exciting, suspenseful, nostalgic.
2.) How did it make you feel not being able to see the photos as they were taken and not being able to edit or know what the photos turned out like?
The instant gratification isn’t fulfilled – but it’s well worth it in the end. It’s like extended foreplay.
3.) From your roll of film what was your fave image and why?
Well, as you know – my roll was a little bit deformed. But I enjoyed the collection as a whole.
4.) Would you be interested in shooting another roll?
Yes please.
5.) Is there anything else we could include or introduce to make the experience more interesting?
You hand this wonderful tool out to people and it’s up to them to create their own experience. I don’t think there’s anything else to add.
6.) Did you enjoy the aspect of shooting a selfie?
I tried to get a bit creative with it – so yeh, I did enjoy it.
7.) What did you think of the outcomes when you saw the final photos?
“My house is haunted!”
“Where are all the photos I carefully and strategically captured!”
I was so anal about the subject matter of each photo. No one was allowed to touch the camera as I was too scared they may ruin my ‘theme’
In the end… not one shot I took was present. instead a random selection of shots taken on tables and bench tops with terrifying lighting and extreme textures.
I’ve learnt a lesson out of this. Don’t be such a fucking control freak or the camera ghosts will hijack your film.
8.) Would you approach the concept differently if you had another go?
With that said ^ Probably not.
9.) Would you enter into the concept if it was set up in a competition format with prizes to be won?
Yeh, I’d consider it. Depends on the requirements I guess. “BEST NUDE SHOT WINS iPAD” I’d probably avoid. 😉
10.) Would you like to see your photos presented in a gallery exhibition environment.
For sure.
11.) Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’d love another go one day. Great experience.
